Não vai ficar tudo bem

Seci

I directed and executed this powerfull animation for SECI’s 2021 campaign against domestic violence, centered on the message: “Not everything will be alright if there’s victims of domestic violence still.” I was very honored by this.

Growing up amidst my parents’ violence—and having recently lost my father at 59—made this project demanding and cathartic. From day one, my vision for what I needed to depict was absolute.

A core memory drove this: opening my bedroom door and watching my mother flying through the air in slow motion, time suspended, before hitting a wall. Recreating the feelings I witnessed as a child, before I had the capacity to understand them, was brutal.

Perception is a bitch. My entire life, I viewed my dad as the “monster” I depicted here. That childhood lens dictated my truth regarding the facts and the dichotomy between good and bad. But life proves there is no single truth. Violence takes multiple forms—physical, emotional, psychological—and the monsters can be either mothers or fathers.

It took 15 years to learn the actual truth behind that frozen memory. My father was not the monster – That’s another film.
Now he’s gone. I deeply regret the time we lost.

Process

I developed a dual-technique approach combining the rough finish of traditional 2D animation with controlled 3D sets and camera movements.

By adapting the distinct visual style of the amazing artist C’Marie, I directed this artistic fusion to convey the seriousness of the subject matter.

As a CG Generalist, I built all the 3D parts, painted some 2D sequences, and handled the final compositing to merge both techniques seamlessly.
